Abstract

This quantitative research aims to conduct a comparative study on the effectiveness of the Qawaid wa Tarjamah method and the Mubasyarah method in improving the speaking ability (maharah al-kalam) of 8th grade students of MTsN 4 Jeneponto. This study used an experimental design with a population of 32 students, where all members of the population were made research subjects through a saturated sampling technique to ensure the validity of the overall results. The main problem studied was the significant difference in speaking ability scores between groups taught with the grammatical-translation approach compared to the direct approach. Data were collected through an oral test instrument which was then analyzed using an independent sample t-test to measure the level of significance of the difference between the two methods. The results showed that the Mubasyarah method was significantly superior in stimulating students' speaking courage and verbal fluency, while the Qawaid wa Tarjamah method contributed more to the aspect of language structure accuracy. The conclusion of the study emphasized that the selection of an adaptive method is the main prerequisite in optimizing oral competence at the madrasah level. It is recommended for educators to combine the advantages of both methods to create a more dynamic, humanistic, and comprehensive Arabic language learning atmosphere.
