PERBANDINGAN PENGGUNAAN MEDIA KORAN DAN MEDIA KONVENSIONAL DALAM MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN MEMBACA SISWA KELAS I SMA 11 MAKASSAR

Abstrak

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh penggunaan media koran dan media konvensional (buku teks) terhadap kemampuan membaca siswa kelas X SMA 11 Makassar Tahun Ajaran 2014/2015. Kemudian peneliti membandingkan kedua media tersebut untuk mengetahui media mana yang lebih efektif.
Penelitian ini menggunakan desain quasi eksperimen, dengan dua kelompok sebagai sampel. Yaitu kelas eksperimen (X3) dan kelas kontrol (X9). Penelitian ini terdiri dari dua variabel yaitu kemampuan membaca siswa sebagai variabel terikat dan variabel bebas yaitu koran dan media konvensional (buku teks).
Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMA 11 Makassar yang terdiri dari 10 kelas. Setiap kelas terdiri dari 38 siswa. Jumlah keseluruhan populasi adalah 380 siswa. Jumlah responden yang dipilih sebagai sampel adalah 76 siswa dengan menggunakan purposive sampling; yaitu sebesar 20% dari populasi. Sebanyak 38 siswa diambil sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 38 siswa diambil sebagai kelas kontrol.
Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes tertulis yang digunakan dalam pre-test dan post-test. Hasil data menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara hasil post-test siswa kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Nilai rata-rata post-test (92,1) kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi daripada nilai rata-rata post-test (80) kelas kontrol. Dari uji-t, peneliti menemukan bahwa nilai t-hitung (3,667) lebih tinggi daripada t-tabel (1,992) pada taraf signifikansi 0,05 dengan derajat kebebasan (df) = 74. Berdasarkan hasil dan pembahasan penelitian, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan membaca siswa yang diajar menggunakan media koran dan yang diajar menggunakan media konvensional (buku teks).
